TV5 Monde / Technicolor

Soft Audiovisuel has deployed the breaking news fabrication platform "All in pics" of the TV5 Monde TV channel for Technicolor. To make the "All in pics", TV5 Monde receives inflows (France 2, Reuters,), tapes or files over the Internet.

The subjects assembled from these elements are streamed on both the channel broadcast servers and on Internet servers for the website. In this context, our teams have won the tender by offering a reliable, secure, easy to use and affordable solution based on broadcast technology from Apple and Softron and perfectly integrated with existing equipment and processes. Through this platform, the TV5 Monde staff faster access to items they need and can really work in a collaborative mode, thereby increasing their effectiveness, without wasting time with repetitive and complex procedures.

Description:
> Our solution is built around a shared storage system for Apple Xsan 32To of raw capacity, secure in RAID 5. The different video elements are recorded directly on the shared storage with Xsan thanks to Apple MacPro equipped with two BlackMagic Design Decklink Duo cards meaning 4 real-time continuous stream recording.
> The media stored on Xsan are managed by the Apple Final Cut Server that is used to give information about the media and make them available to all employees. Indeed, they can, from any workstation connected to Xsan, seek simply and quickly multiple criteria searches, then view and select the media that interest them. Then, they perform their mounting directly on the Xsan. The system power and the architecture allow the same media to be used simultaneously by multiple users without slowing the system. With Final Cut Server, it is also possible to automate certain tasks such as encoding or sending to the diffusion when the subject is validated as ready to play.
> The encoding is performed by an Apple Xserve server equipped with the Telestream Episode Pro application and an existing FlipFactory render farm. Several compression settings are predefined by the users and associated to different files that Final Cut Server copies to “ready to distribute” topics. The Episode Pro "Watch Folder" function continuously scans these files and, when a new file is detected, automatically starts the compression parameters associated with the file. Episode Pro can handle multiple simultaneous encoding in various formats, allowing to the user the ability to set priorities. Encoded files are stored in the user-defined location, such as a remote FTP server and / or a streaming server Grass Valley K2.
> The broadcast stations are based on Apple Mac Pro stations equipped with BlackMagic Design Decklink HD Extreme 3D cards that can emerge in an SDI stream SD or HD audio. The Softron On The Air application allows the preparation of mailing lists with drag / drop items to broadcast or to send topics manually. The user can also trigger the inserted logo or redefine the points of entry / exit of the video.
